All the Right Type by Ingenuity Works is a fun typing tutorial that's easy for kids to navigate, and the arcade-style games will appeal to all ages. But the help files and user options for the program are limited.
Navigation is intuitive, and the typing drills, games and activities are just as easy. All the Right Type encourages kids to move back and forth through six different buildings on the main menu page: one for lessons, one for practice, another for skill building, one for testing, a word processor (Notepad) and the final building is a records library where typing progress is tracked. The seventh building is for teacher maintenance of a typing class, since this program is designed for group (or individual) use.
This typing program includes skill learning, practice text, repetitive drills, and a series of specific typing tests that pinpoint exactly what students have mastered and where they need more work. The program even offers mouse-movement exercises—something we haven't seen in other typing software. All the Right Type includes five engaging games and 10 key lessons called Key Pad Review.
We didn't have any trouble installing All the Right Type. And this typing software was only one of two programs we reviewed that installs on every common computer operating system, including MACs.
The help files in All the Right Type fell short of what we expected, but this typing software is easy to use, so weak assistance isn't a big issue. The manufacturer, Ingenuity Works, offers email and phone customer service.
All the Right Type is one of the easier typing programs to use, and the design is fun for everyone. This typing software encourages kids to set goals before moving on to the next lesson or test—a good habit. Because this typing software includes plenty of colorful action, it can hold a child's attention a long time as they learn to type.
